It is our pleasure to inform you about the planning of QCM'98. This Conference will be the fourth of a series of very successful meetings that have been held in:

  1. Paris, November 1990, Quantum Aspects of Optical Communications
  2. Nottingham, July 1994, Quantum Communications and Measurements
  3. Fuji-Hakone, September 1996, Quantum Communications and Measurements

This time the Conference will be held at the beautiful campus of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois (near Chicago, USA). With respect to the previous conferences of the series, which were mainly theoretical, QCM'98 will now devote more attention to experiments. Another novelty is that quantum computation now enters the Conference as a main topic.
This is because in the last few years this topic has naturally brought together the main fields of the former conferences of the series, namely, quantum measurement theory, quantum communication and information processing, quantum noise, quantum open system, and quantum optics. We intend to have Plenum publish the proceedings, as in the previous Nottingham and Hakone conferences. Sponsorship has so far been secured from Tamagawa University, M.I.T and Northwestern University. The program of the conference will be in the form of invited, regular, and poster papers.

Topics:

  1. Quantum information theory
  2. Quantum computing
  3. Quantum communication systems, cryptography
  4. New quantum effects and their experiments
  5. Generation and detection of nonclassical light
  6. Quantum noise, stochastic processes and filtering
  7. Quantum measurement theory
