The College of Arts and Sciences seeks students with a strong

Students should be capable of studying at their own
initiative in a manner consistent with the University’s
educational philosophy.The Department of Liberal Arts seeks to foster students
who possess broad-ranging knowledge and are capable of working
with those of differing views and cultures. Our goal is
to produce graduates with advanced conceptual and logical
skills to understand both today’s globalized
world and contemporary Japan from diversified perspectives,
identify issues on their own, and contribute to solving them.

The introductory phase focuses on teaching communication skills in Japanese and English, information-processing skills, and presentation skills. Students take multiple foundational courses under different majors.

In the development phase, students take courses on a broad range of practical subjects and address various research topics. They may also elect to take foundational courses in specialized subjects from seven other colleges within the University. Hands-on education through off-campus studies is also available (including study abroad and internships with companies in Japan and overseas).
