Aims and outlines
Japan made tremendous contributions in the field of applied microbiology. However, recent trends in genomics and the Convention on Biological Diversity have impacted on natural product drug discovery. In 2000, we thus initiated a workshop on microbial resources so that the scientists of this field in industries, universities, and national institutes can exchange information through enthusiastic discussions. Five workshops in the past are all well received.
