The Tamagawa − VIU Horticultural Program 1

Hello Japanese friends! My name is Bruce Cornwall and I’m an instructor in the Tamagawa − VIU HorticulturalProgram here in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island in British Columbia Canada.
Twice a year lucky students come to study horticulture, environmental science, and of course, English. The students are lucky not just because they stay in beautiful British Columbia, but also because of the wonderful learning experience provided by the program. There are trips and guest speakers every week. For example, students go to Butchard Gardens for a behind the scene look at how the gardens are managed. They do a series of workshops with first nations people on restoration and preservation of habitats. Students see and participate in the activities of salmon hatcheries and maple sugar production. Professors and environmentalists visit our campus and give talks on topics such as the importance of salmon in British Columbia, climate change, water quality, ecology and recycling. Students even visit a castle and study its gardens and invasive species control.
