Students actively grow new plants using a variety of propagation techniques at the Paine Centre. Students also study up-to-date growing techniques and forestry practices that are environmentally friendly and sustainable. Every week, students travel to interesting locations on Vancouver Island to find and identify plants, shrubs and trees, and see the relationship between the various species and the environment.
In English we say the program is ehands onf, which means students are actively involved in learning and not always sitting at a desk.
How is it possible to do all this in English? Well the students have English classes three times a week to help with communication in the horticulture classes, field trips, lectures, homestay and of course with Canadians they meet while having fun shopping, eating in restaurants or participating in sports activities.
If youfre willing to eactivatef your English, increase your knowledge of our precious environment, and challenge life in a new culture, then you can join a program that most students donft want to leave!
Come and love where you learn at VIU in beautiful British Columbia.
