Program

Course Descriptions

Course 1. Current Issues in Japan (30 hours)

Take lectures on topics such as "Education," "Art & Culture," "Tourism," "Business," and "Society." Go on fieldwork to the places related to the class topics.

Course 2. Elementary Japanese (8 hours)

Acquire the elementary Japanese necessary for traveling and staying in Japan.

Course 3. Japanese Culture (8 hours)

Experience traditional Japanese culture such as “Calligraphy” and “Tea Ceremony”.

Course 4. Excursions (Not included in the total contact hours)

Visit sightseeing places in the Tokyo area (day trip).

Tamagawa students take the lectures and go on fieldwork together.
Participants have lots of time interacting with Tamagawa students while learning and experiencing about Japan!

Minimum number of participants: 5 students

Academic Credit

Credit: 3 credits (46 contact hours in total)

Participants will receive a Certificate at the Closing Ceremony. Tamagawa will issue a Grade Report and the information sheet detailing the grading system and total contact hours of the program, and will send them via e-mail within one month of the end date of the program.
Tamagawa will not confer any credits to participants. Participants should consult with their home university about the possibility of receiving credits for their participation in the program.

Eligibility

  • ・A student at one of Tamagawa's partner universities
  • ・18 years old and over on the first day of the program
  • ・Those who can follow instructions in English
  • ・A beginner in Japanese
  • ・Those who can obtain a visitor's visa into Japan (if needed)

Program Fees

110,000 JPY

  • ・Accommodation
  • ・Daily expenses (Meals, transportation etc)

Payment Deadline

The payment deadline and instruction will be provided to successful applicants.

Cancellation Policy

Regarding cancellations after payment of the program fee, refunds will be issued based on the following rates.

After July 25 No refunds
  • ●In the event that Tamagawa determines that conducting this program becomes difficult due to disasters, riots, terrorism, or other such events within Japan, and decides to cancel the program; all payments excluding actual expenses incurred up to that point and the refund handling fee will be refunded.
  • ●The refund amount may not be exactly the same as the amount you paid due to differences in the exchange rate at the payment and refund.
  • ●The handling fee will be borne by the participants. Tamagawa will deduct the handling fee from the total amount before issuing a refund.

Accommodation

Accommodation options

Tamagawa has a partnership with Hotel Resol Machida and can arrange a room for participants.

The accommodation cost (meals not included) : About 142,000 JPY for 16 nights, as for 2024.

Room type: Non-smoking single room.
Checking-in: July 30, Checking-out: August 15

For those who wish to arrange their own housing may declare at the time of application. If you have made your own accommodation arrangements, please report your accommodation information to Tamagawa University by e-mail (satama@tamagawa.ac.jp) before the start of the program.
