Tamagawa students will take the same course as part of their summer session and will participate in the events during the program. Tamagawa students will be your “buddy” during your stay at Tamagawa, so there will be many opportunities to interact with Tamagawa students.

from Multiple PerspectivesYou will explore “Japan today” from a variety of perspectives. Learning will take place not only through classroom lectures, but also through fieldwork that gives you the opportunity to observe and experience Japanese society firsthand.

Experience Authentic Japanese Culture
Learn traditional Japanese culture such as tea ceremony, taiko drumming, and calligraphy from experienced experts, and explore the cultural meaning behind each practice.

Study on a campus with easy access to central Tokyo as well as popular nearby spots like Yokohama, Kamakura, and Hakone. Enjoy the chance to explore both modern cities and traditional cultural sites outside of class.
Program
Course Descriptions
Course 1. Current Issues in Japan (30 hours)
Take lectures on topics in the fields of "Education," "Society,” “Culture,” “Business,” and “Tourism.” Go on fieldwork to the places related to the class topics.

Course 2. Elementary Japanese (8 hours)
Acquire the elementary Japanese necessary for traveling and staying in Japan.
Course 3. Japanese Culture (8 hours)
Experience traditional Japanese culture such as “Calligraphy” and “Tea Ceremony”.
Course 4. Excursions (Not included in the total contact hours)
Visit sightseeing places around Tokyo area (day trip).

Academic Credit
Credit: Equivalent to 3 credits (Total contact hours: 46 hours)
Participants will receive a Certificate at the Closing Ceremony. Tamagawa University will issue a Grade Report detailing the grading system and total contact hours of the program. The Grade Report will be sent to the participants’ home universities as well as directly to the participants via e-mail within one month of the program ends.
Please note that Tamagawa University does not award academic credits for this program. Therefore, if participants wish to receive credits, they should consult with their home universities to determine whether credit can be granted for this program.
Eligibility
- ・A student at one of Tamagawa's partner universities
- ・18 years old and over on the first day of the program
- ・Those who can follow instructions in English
- ・Those who can obtain a visitor's visa into Japan (if needed)
- ・Japanese proficiency is not required, but it is recommended to study some before coming to Japan.

Open Badge
Starting from the 2025 academic year, participants of Study at Tamagawa who meet the following requirements will be awarded an Open Badge. Information about obtaining the Open Badge will be provided together with the Grade Report about one month after the program ends.

- 1. Participants who have been awarded the Study at Tamagawa Certificate
- 2. Achieved an overall program grade of 60% or higher

Payment Deadline
The payment deadline and instructions will be provided to successful applicants.
Cancellation Policy
Regarding cancellation after payment of the program fee, refunds will be made according to the following percentages.

- ●If it becomes difficult to conduct this program in Japan due to disasters, riots, terrorism, or other similar events, TU may decide to cancel the program. In that case, the full amount students have paid, excluding actual expenses incurred and the handling fee, will be refunded.
- ●Depending on the exchange rate between the time of payment and the time of refund, the refunded amount may not be the same as the amount paid.
