心血管リスク因子と低体力は社会的認知機能の低下と関わる

  • 心血管リスク因子(肥満、高血圧)および体力(持久力、歩行速度、手指巧緻性、筋力)と社会的認知機能の関係を、機能的磁気共鳴画像法を用いて調べました。
  • 心血管リスク因子と低体力は、社会脳ネットワークに関係する脳活動の低下を介し、社会的認知機能の低下と関わっていました。
  • 特に、肥満、持久力、手指巧緻性が社会脳ネットワークの脳活動および社会的認知機能と強く関わっていました。

幼少期の運動経験が後年の認知機能を維持・増進させる脳内ネットワークと皮質構造の変化を解明

  • 児童期(12歳まで)に運動経験を有する人は後年の認知機能が高いことが示されました。
  • 一方で、思春期以降の運動経験と認知機能の間に関係は認められませんでした。
  • 児童期の運動経験と認知機能の関係は、脳内ネットワークのモジュール※1分離、左右半球間の構造的結合の強化、皮質の厚さの増大、神経突起のちらばりと密度の減少によるものであることが示唆されました。
  • 環境や経験に依存した脳内ネットワークの形成に敏感な児童期に運動を行うことで、脳内ネットワークの最適化が促され、後年の認知機能の維持・増進につながると考えられます。

「身体機能の高い人が、認知機能を高めている」脳の働きを解明

  • 有酸素性の持久力と手指の巧緻性は、互いに独立してワーキングメモリーとポジティブに関わることが示されました。一方で、歩行速度と筋力にはそのような関係は認められませんでした。
  • 持久力が高い人は、課題中の前頭―頭頂ネットワークの活動を上昇させること、また、その領域の活動が十分でない場合には、より広範な領域の活動を上昇させることで、ワーキングメモリー課題の成績を向上させていることが示されました。
  • 手指の巧緻性が高い人は、課題中の前頭―頭頂ネットワークの活動を上昇させ、デフォルトモードネットワークの活動を低下させること、また、それらのネットワーク間の関係を調節することで、ワーキングメモリー課題の成績を向上させていることが示されました。
