BaCaDM Project

BaCaDM Project
The BaCaDM (Banana and Cacao Disease Management) is a five-year collaborative research project between Central Luzon State University and Tamagawa University, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) SATREPS initiatives which aim to develop and promote a technology system that will help farmers address major diseases in banana and cacao.
A sustainable farm management system of banana and cacao is seen to boost the Philippines' efforts to curb hunger and promote environment-friendly food production.

Project Objective
Establish integrated technical systems for the control of Panama and sigatoka diseases in banana and VSD and pod rot disease in cocoa.
  1. Understanding the conditions during banana and cacao disease outbreaks
  2. Disease management system for banana
  3. Disease management system for cacao
  4. Dissemination of the management system
【Outputs Detail】
  1. An ex-situ conservation system is established to understand the biodiversity of fungi isolated from banana and cacao fields.
  2. Novel technologies such as Fusarium wilt and Sigatoka are to be developed to control banana diseases.
  3. Novel technologies such as VSD and Pod Rot are to be developed to control cacao diseases.
  4. An industry government academia collaboration system is established to for the dissemination of novel technologies and the integrated technology systems in consideration of environmental, social, and economic impact evaluation.
